Each Aquwall product automatically regulates the volume of incoming air to ensure excellent ventilation at all times. The Aquwall HY+ series does so based on relative humidity, making it particularly effective for protecting against excessive mould and mildew. The Aquwall Press operates based on air pressure, allowing comfortable ventilation even in areas that commonly experience high winds.
With Equivalent Areas of at least 2,500mm2, Aquwall wall vents are ideally suited for use with the Airstream range of MEV units to provide Part F compliance CMEV systems.
How do passive wall vents work?
Passive wall vents offer what’s called natural ventilation. That’s because they use natural forces to circulate clean air around a building. Two natural forces common to passive wall vents include:
- Wind force ventilation: As the wind blows, it creates different pressures. Passive wall vents take advantage of these pressures to draw in fresh air and expel stale, moist or polluted air from inside.
- Thermal buoyancy ventilation: When the temperature and humidity inside the building are greater than those outside, the difference in vapour content causes moist air to expel and fresh air to be drawn in.
These forces also enable a feature known as night cooling. The wind and thermally generated pressure expel heat from a building at night to reduce its thermal mass while nobody is around. The following day, this acts as a heat sink, drawing in plenty of heat to keep the property warm.
These vents also use filters to protect against drafts and remove additional impurities from the air. In doing so, they further improve air quality and protect against condensation and mould. They also don’t require moving parts to function, meaning there’s no need to perform regular maintenance.
How are passive wall vents installed?
To install a passive wall vent, it’s only required to drill through the outside wall of a particular room. This makes them very quick and easy to install in both new and existing commercial and residential buildings.
